What is nutritional yeast and where can I buy it?

Nutritional yeast is a flavour enhancer widely used in plant-based cooking. It’s common brewer's yeast (the one used to leaven bread and other baked products) which has been deactivated, dried and crumbled into flakes. If you need to avoid gluten, make sure that your nutritional yeast has been "grown" on a medium that is gluten-free (check the label).
You can buy it in most well-stocked supermarkets, health food stores and online.
